## 5 Architectural Landmarks You Can't Miss in Mongolia
Mongolia is a country where beauty can be in tourist hotspots as well as unexpected places. With rare sights of untouched nature, one couldn't ask for anything more — but there are architectural landmarks to explore as well.
### 1. Kharkhorin and Erdene Zuu Monastery

The historic city of Karakorum served as Genghis Khan's capital during the 13th-14th centuries. Erdene Zuu Monastery, constructed in 1586, was Mongolia's first Buddhist monastery. Founded by Altai Khan, it features three principal temples symbolizing Buddha's life stages.
### 2. Amarbayasgalant Monastery

Among Mongolia's three largest Buddhist centers, built between 1727-1736. The original 40-temple complex features symmetrical layout with buildings aligned along the North-South axis.
### 3. Tuvkhun Monastery

Constructed in 1648 by the 14-year-old Zanabazar, already Buddhism's spiritual leader in Outer Mongolia. Today, it holds UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
### 4. Zaisan Hill

A fusion of contemporary design with historical significance. The Zaisan Hill Monument honors Mongol and Soviet soldiers from World War II.
### 5. Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue

A 131-foot-tall statue east of Ulaanbaatar on the Tuul River's bank. The museum displays Bronze Age artifacts and exhibitions spanning Genghis Khan's rule.
